Nepal Demonstrations

While in Nepal, I had the privilege of witnessing a good ol' fashioned tire-burning demonstration. They're actually not that rare in Nepal. Someone got hit and killed on the street, and since their family didn't feel like they were adequately compensated, the next day they burned some tires to close down transportation in an part of Kathmandu. All this to prove their point. If anyone tried to pass by their roadblock on motorcycle or with other vehicles, they would do all they could to stop them. After a couple hours of enjoying the billowing black smoke, the police finally took action, charged the protestors with sheilds and beatin' sticks, and the protest was over. No one got hurt, but it was quite a lot of excitement for a Kansas boy like me!
